A Specter of Truth
Kathleen McKeeLizzie Mitchell is a young woman ahead of her time. Though she’s a rural farmgirl in 1818, Lizzie is determined to find a way to attend the French Creek Boarding School for Girls. It’s the only available opportunity to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher.
Once she completes the curriculum and is hired to teach at the school, Lizzie turns down Tom’s proposals to marry. She clearly loves him, but needs to resign from her position if she’s to wed. In frustration, Tom makes his own choice, leaving Lizzie to assume that she is meant to live as a spinster.
Meanwhile, Lizzie’s long-departed uncle arrives at the homestead, toting a sick wife. Neither Lizzie, nor her father, believes that the man is who he says he is. Unfortunately, his presence has dreadful consequences for both of them.
